The Capricorn Full Moon arrives on June 21st, shortly after the Solstice, amplifying its power and magnetism.
Full Moons draw energy up and out of us, making them powerful portals for releasing, completing, and unearthing new information. And, as the energy grid of the planet moves into higher harmony under the Solstice, the Capricorn Full Moon allows us to experience a deeper healing and a deeper shift into alignment.
Since the 2024 June Full Moon happens on the Solstice, the very day the Sun is absolutely at its highest of the year, this month’s Full Moon on the 21st is the very lowest full Moon, indeed, the lowest we’ve seen in years.
June's Full Moon is known as the Strawberry Moon for the strawberries and other fruits that ripen in the summer months. The moon's name has its origins from Native Americans, attributed to the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota tribe According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the strawberry moon is also called the honey moon in Europe. This is likely because June is the traditional month for marriages, and the month is even named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage. With that in mind, the strawberry moon might also be a period of reflection on past, present, or future romantic relationships.
In astrology, the moon serves as your emotional compass, ruling over your intuition and sense of security. Every month, the point at which it reaches its most full, shimmery, and luminous tends to put extra emphasis on those lunar themes.
When the moon is full in Capricorn, it sits opposite the sun in Cancer in the sky. The Cancer-Capricorn axis is concerned with security—both materially and emotionally. This lunation asks you to reflect deeper on how this dichotomy exists within you. Have you abandoned one principle in exchange for the other?
Capricorn seeks material status and gain, and yearns to reach new heights through achievement and recognition. So, the full moon in Capricorn may allow you to recognize some of your worldly accomplishments, but it’s also a powerful time to reflect on your work-life balance. Where have you hardened yourself in order to keep pushing forward? This is an ideal moment to consider where you can invite more time for you and your needs into your life. Essentially, there is a pull between our outer and inner worlds, and we’re faced with an opportunity to recalibrate.
On Capricorn - Resilience, Power
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet of boundaries, restrictions, and structure. The sign is also the ruler of the tenth house of career and public image. Those born with placements in the pragmatic sign are hard workers (okay, sometimes workaholics) who act in a slow, steady, calculated way to ultimately achieve, succeed, earn recognition, and reach the peak of whatever mountain they've set their hearts on climbing. Caps are wired to step into powerful positions and claim status.
Capricorn is symbolised by the mythical Sea-Goat. It is half goat, half fish, never really belonging to the land or to the seas, but nonetheless, it finds its way, giving the Sea-Goat a rare vantage point that no other animal can experience.
As the Sea-Goat masters the ability to climb a mountain, it can see the world from up high. As the Sea-Goat masters the ability to swim, it can see the world from below the surface.
Capricorn means different things to different people, depending on where Capricorn sits in your natal chart. But we can all agree that Capricorn is about structure, hierarchy, authority, systems, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
This full moon will have you reflecting on your own achievements and sense of personal power as well as discipline, boundaries, and the work you've done - or perhaps still need to do - to feel like you're on track.
Cancer and Capricorn Axis - Inner and Outer Security
We cannot think about Capricorn without thinking about the opposite sign, Cancer. We can only understand the essence of a sign in relation to the opposite sign. Two opposite signs have the same energy, but they express it in completely different ways.
Cancer-Capricorn is the axis of security. With Capricorn, we look for security outside. We climb the ladder. We get promoted. We get diplomas, awards, and certifications. We get recognized. All in the name of security.
With Cancer, we look for security inside. We draw our strength from within. We have solid emotional foundations. We build a home. We express our feelings with no fear. We have strong relationships with our family. We embrace our culture.
Capricorn the highest point of zodiac and Cancer is the lowest point. Capricorn is the tree, Cancer is the roots. We cannot have one without the other. With no solid roots, the tree will never grow strong. With nothing to grow into, the roots don’t have a reason to exist.
Capricorn is an earth sign, and represents our material security.
Cancer is a water sign and represents our emotional security.
Capricorn lives in a world of boundary, hard work and productivity.
Cancer lives in a world of emotional exploration.
Capricorn initiates the utilisation of the physical world around us, while Cancer initiates feeling.
One aspect of the parent teaches us how to be in the world, fulfil our promises and be responsible even when we don’t feel like it. The other teaches us how to locate, understand and process the feelings that arise, inform and guide us.
Capricorn takes Cancer’s reluctant hand and guides it through the outer world showing it how to utilise that precious heart in the outer world of accomplishments. Cancer beckons Capricorn home to refuel, replenish and remember what is at the heart of life.
This doesn’t mean that Capricorn values – perseverance, rules, hard work, being an adult – are not important. They are important. But they become truly meaningful when they are rooted in the truth of who we are (Cancer).
Questions to be with
Big questions you can ask yourself during this full moon include:
Cancer:
What threatens my safety and I am willing to cut?
How can I feel more secure in my relationships?
How do I find emotional security?
Capricorn:
Am I trying to have too much control over my life instead of letting things run normally?
Is my authoritarian way hurting my relationships?
I desire professional security, but how is my emotional security going? What is my motivation?
How can I better balance my obligations at home with my responsibilities of work?
How can I become more independent and self-sufficient without losing my vulnerability and openness?
☾✩☽ Moon Medicine Rituals ☾✩☽
Create an altar. Create a sacred space in your home - see our guide in aftercare.
Connect with the Moon. Whether or not you subscribe to astrology, the moon is always in the sky, and attuning yourself to the moon's cycle can guide self-care.
New moon: At the beginning of the lunar month, the moon is a new moon. Metaphorically, it's a time to plant the new seeds of goals, intentions, and actions.
Waxing phase: Her growth from new moon to full moon is the waxing phase. This the Warrior Phase—where we gain momentum in our actions.
Waning phase: The Sage Phase happens as she wanes from full, —where we gradually power down, restore ourselves, and integrate lessons learned.
Dark moon: The last few days before the new moon is called the dark moon. Here's when we retreat to our proverbial caves to rest and reflect, preparing for a new cycle ahead
Cleanse. Sage your Home, Bedroom, Chariot & Office. Energetically cleanse the energetic wombs of your life, where you find yourself “creating”.
Observe. Select a journal, and record your dreams, thoughts, insights, experiences and observations.
Collect items: pen, paper, tarot cards, candles, incense, herbs, symbols to represent Luna: mirror, mother, water, seashells, etc.
Have Patience. Have patience with yourself and the journey you’re embarking. Allow yourself the emotional space to process, release, learn, develop and heal.
Lavender Oil. Have lavender in your home, bed or altar. Lavender can bring stillness, and calm an overactive mind.
I Feel. Acknowledge your emotions and journal with what emerges.
Breathe Deeply. The pull of The Moon can bring up strong sensations and emotions – and sometimes this is uncomfortable. However it’s a prime opportunity to feel more and allow the emotion to unfurl. A very practical and grounded way to do so is to focus on the breath and breathe a little deeper than you would normally. Place your hands on your Womb and Heart and take a few deep breaths and feel.
Go For A Moon Walk. Walking in the lunar light in nature can be particularly magical.Watch how the trees move and interact; with The Moon, the wind, with you, and listen, really listen in to the sounds of nature. Moon Bathing can be a truly magical and intimate experience.
Take A Long Luxurious Bath. The Moon affects the tides, the Oceans, the water in our body.
To get in touch with this aspect of nature within and around us – take a long bath.Add in Epson Salts, your favourite essential oil, play some soothing music, light candles and relax.
Tending to your Temple: BodyLiving consciously starts with taking care of your body; the temple that houses you, here on this planet. So, scan yourself from head to toe. How does your body feel? Give yourself all the O2 and H2O your body needs.. Your body will thank you for that.
Ground, Ground, and Ground
The magnetic pull of The Moon is strong so Grounding is super important. If you do nothing else at The Full Moon – ground. It’s especially helpful just before bed as being rooted in the body aids a better sleep.
