The Trailblazery presents Moon Medicine – a monthly gathering for women to coincide with the Full Moon cycle of 2022. As we navigate global uncertainty, we host a series of curated online experiences for women who need inspiration, encouragement and connection in the times ahead.

My mother was my first country, the first place I ever lived
— Nayyirah Waheed

On Monday January 17 at 7pm Irish time, The Trailblazery presents “The Art of Mothering ourselves, each other and this Earth we call home”, featuring Layla O’Mara, writer, acupuncturist, motherhood and matrescence guide.

Layla works with women navigating the rite of passage that is motherhood, helping them to shed what is not theirs to carry and to reclaim the skills, tools, competencies and sacred feminine energy that motherhood can engender. Her online platform NuaNua runs courses for mothers, helping them to navigate the rite of passage known as matrescence and to explore how we as mothers can have a catalysing role to play in the axis shift our planet is going through.

At Moon Medicine, Layla will share her story as a rising Irish voice in the world of Mothership and Motherhood and will lead us through a practice to support us in the art of mothering ourselves and eachother and connecting to Mother Earth.

Hosted by Kathy Scott, Founder of The Trailblazery, this very special online event will also feature music from Layla’s husband and partner, Brian Crosby, pianist, producer & film score composer. We are delighted to welcome Brian as our first male contributor to our Moon Medicine series.

If you can’t attend the call live, it will be recorded and the replay will be sent to you by email within 24 hours.

Kathy Scott, Founder and Creative Director of The Trailblazery shares:

“I am completely ‘over the moon’ to welcome Layla to our circle. We have moved in similar circles for many years, originally in the worlds of arts and culture and now in the women's wellbeing community in Ireland. In more recent years, we have forged a deeper sisterhood in the wilds of the Wicklow mountains. Layla is a force of nature and blends motherhood with the care-taking of mothers via NuaNua. She is a powerful creatrix, community leader, writer and wellness advocate. Beautifully aligned with our mission at Moon Medicine, Layla is a woman supporting women and it is a huge honour to host her and her husband Brian Crosby as our opening luminaries of 2022”.

About Layla O’Mara

Layla is a writer, five element acupuncturist and motherhood and matrescence guide. Layla also treats women on a body, mind and spirit level as an acupuncturist from a tranquil treatment space beside her home.

Layla has recently completed her first book, a memoir titled My Octopus Womb, which explores her motherhood journey as well as her relationship to her own womb (which she had removed earlier this year), the womb space as a collective energy and our connection with the more than human world in which we are all cradled.  Layla lives and works at the foot of the Wicklow mountains with her husband, composer Brian Crosby, and her three children.

About Brian Crosby

Brian is an Irish pianist, producer & film score composer. His music career started at the age of 16 when he and Damien Rice started playing music together in school. This led to them forming the indie band Juniper and then later Bell X1. In 2006, Brian formed The Cake Sale, a band featuring an eclectic collective of artists. In 2008, Brian moved to Berlin where he converted an old factory in Kreuzberg to a studio complex which would become home to the heart of the Berlin film music scene. It was here that he collaborated with fellow studio residents Dustin O’Halloran, Hildur Guõnadóttir, Rutger Hoedemaekers and the late Jóhann Jóhannsson on numerous Film and TV scores. In 2017 Brian moved back to Ireland with his family and built The Treehouse Studios where he continues to write music for Film and TV as his own solo work.

About Moon Medicine

Moon Medicine was initiated by The Trailblazery {Hedge School, Census of the Heart, We Need to Talk About Ireland, Rites of Passage} in 2018 in the light of Repeal and the rising momentum of women worldwide speaking out, stepping up and reclaiming their power. Our mission is to help women to remember, embody and reclaim their authentic powerful selves so that together we can rise and lift each other up along the way. In 2019 the Moon Medicine Global Academy was launched - a year-long online training programme for women which expanded our Moon Medicine circle to include women all over the world.

Our live Moon Medicine gatherings weave together a range of feminine teachings blending ancient wisdom with cutting edge developments in the fields of epigenetics, quantum physics and neuroscience. We explore the gifts of the lunar cycle as a map of empowerment for women’s wellbeing. We draw from a deep well to find practices and resources that support women’s self care and the care of this place we call home. To find out more visit TheTrailblazery.com

Testimonials:

Kathy Scott has been traveling the world as a passionate student and brave pioneer of practices that bring people into intimate contact with their creativity and power. As a teacher, she beautifully weaves together all that she has gathered into a rich and generous offering. This is a deeply nourishing and powerful brew, especially for women

Annie Ryan, Artistic Director Corn Exchange

Kathy Scott creates an utterly transcendent yoga experience.  I attended her recent Rising Feminine Medicine Yoga Programme and it exceeded any expectations that I might have had on a mental, emotional, energetic and deeply feminine level.  Her classes are packed full of wisdom, kindness, practical yoga asanas and meditative exercises that flowed off the mat with me and seamlessly threaded into my days for the rest of the week.  Kathy elegantly weaves a powerful depth and breath of experience into all of her classes. Such a restorative weekly tonic.  I couldn't recommend her more highly.
